Tides of Tension PT1

Chapter One: The Rising Tensions

It was a sweltering July morning in 2020 when the world awoke to a new reality. For years, tensions had been simmering between the United States and China, driven by economic rivalries, territorial disputes, and conflicting ideologies. The rest of the world had nervously watched as these two global giants squared off.

July 16, 2020, marked a turning point. It began with a seemingly routine maritime dispute in the South China Sea, where American and Chinese naval vessels had been shadowing each other for weeks. The dispute erupted into violence when a minor collision between a Chinese frigate and an American destroyer escalated into a full-blown naval skirmish.

The world watched in horror as the situation quickly spiraled out of control. Diplomatic channels, once conduits of cooperation, had become avenues of accusation and threats. Social media was flooded with images and videos of naval clashes, fiery rhetoric from both sides, and calls for calm from concerned citizens worldwide.

As the naval conflict intensified, reports came in of cyberattacks on critical infrastructure on both sides of the Pacific. Power grids, communication networks, and financial systems were under siege, and the blame game escalated. Each side accused the other of launching the devastating cyberattacks.

In the heart of Washington, D.C., President James Turner called an emergency meeting of his top advisors. The situation had deteriorated rapidly, and the world was on the brink of war. In the Oval Office, the President weighed his options carefully.

Meanwhile, in Beijing, President Xi Jinping held a similar meeting with his top military brass. The Chinese government, too, was assessing the gravity of the situation and preparing for all-out conflict.

In the midst of this crisis, global leaders scrambled to mediate. The United Nations called for an emergency session to address the escalating tensions, but their pleas for restraint seemed to fall on deaf ears as the American and Chinese militaries continued to clash on the high seas and in cyberspace.

In the days that followed, the world held its breath, waiting to see if cooler heads would prevail or if the American-Chinese Annexation War would continue to escalate into a full-scale global catastrophe.

The world had entered a new era, one where the superpowers of old were on the brink of a devastating conflict that threatened to reshape the geopolitical landscape forever.

15.

Awaken 

You suddenly feel the ground moving beneath your feet.  Unexpectedly you flutter your eyes open and you find yourself inside your bedroom. You feel rays of sunlight pierced through the curtains, You stretched her arms and legs, feeling the warmth of the soft blankets around you. For a moment, you lay there, lost in thought.

You sit up slowly, feeling groggy and disoriented. As you do, you notice that there's a faint, pulsing light coming from somewhere off in the distance, and a feeling of curiosity tugs at you. You stand up, taking tentative steps forward, and as you do, you begin to notice that there are strange shapes and patterns etched into the walls around you.

As you continue walking, the light grows brighter and brighter, until you round a corner and suddenly find yourself standing at the edge of a vast, glowing chasm. Below you, stretching out as far as the eye can see, is a vast, pulsing network of neon-lit pathways and structures, all surrounded by an endless sea of darkness.

You feel a sense of wonder and awe wash over you, and you realise that you must have woken up from a trip in my mind mind and found yourself in a place that's both strange and beautiful. You take a deep breath and step forward, feeling a sense of adventure coursing through your veins.  You look behind yourself and see me sitting there and I say to you “Welcome back”

Anyone who’s been saying that Nick and Charlie are too sexually pure like “oh they’re teenage boys, they’d be having a lot of sex” has clearly never read the novella

Dp x Dc wherein learning magic is similar to learning how to play music. 

So basically, the creation of a summoning spell is like a full composition/song made of smaller components or ���notes’ for things like gravity shifting, and geolocation, and transportation etc. which is why Magic can be taught and spells can be man-made. 

Danny, however, is the equivalent of having Perfect Pitch. He can compose entire songs of spells without really thinking about it due to his royal titles (ambassador/king/high prince) but doesn’t really know how to be specific which lands him in some trouble with Clockwork. His portals are coming along a lot better with the help of Wulf but its critical that Danny learns how to control the range of his magic *something something, for the timestream something* *blah blah according to the will of the ancients blah blah*. 

So put on the course to learn Magic, Danny decides to hunt down the House of Mystery and study up by himself. He’s doing community college online, what could a little bit of Magic self study really do to his schedule? This place has literally every magic resource he could need! 

Turns out he has a roommate in the House of Mystery- John Constantine does not take well to the fact that half of the spells Danny is creating are causing him issues with the JL. Random shit appearing, random shit disappearing, portals everywhere and don’t get him started on the fucking ICE present on every bloody thing the magic reaches. Not to mention there is no reason a normal human kid should be able to have this much power behind his spells. 

John attempts to teach Danny the basics like a little kid gets stickers placed on the keys of a piano. The problem is Danny has the ability to compose entire scores of Magic all on his own, and absolutely abhors the training wheels John is putting on him. 

Danny: You’re patronizing me! 

John: You deserve to be patronized. 

Just like, Danny learning Magic in various ways that you might teach kids to play musical instruments from the various Magic users in the JLD. Causing chaos along the way, found family, the whole nine. Stickers on the instruments for notes, taking away guitar strings that are ‘more advanced’ and replaying Twinkle, Twinkle little star over and over again. 

Danny can play the Magic equivalent of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake but cannot play Chopsticks.
